Elizabeth Ducie

Latest News:

Come along to Chudleigh Church on Friday 1st November to help Elizabeth Ducie celebrate the launch of both her latest thriller: Retribution, and the fourth in her cosy crime series: Silenced at the Summer Social.

There will be fizz and cakes, plus live music from the wonderful mezzo soprano, Iryna Ilnytska. And, of course, chat about and readings from both books. There may even be a murder board! The event is free, but for catering purposes, it helps if you let Elizabeth know you want to come: [email protected]

My Writing

I began creative writing in 2006 and initially wrote short stories and poetry for competitions. I had a few wins, several honourable mentions and some short-listing.  I am also published in several anthologies.

My debut novel, Gorgito’s Ice Rink, is a cross-genre story featuring an impossible quest, dual timelines and love, both the romantic and the familial sense. It was Runner-Up in the 2015 Self-Published Book of the Year awards.

The Jones Sisters thrillers are set in the sometimes murky world of international pharmaceuticals. The first three parts (Counterfeit!Deception!, and Corruption!) were published between 2016 and 2018. In September 2024, I published the final part in the series, Retribution!.

The Coombesford Chronicles, cosy crime set in a typical English village, have been published annually since 2021. So far, we have seen Murder at Mountjoy Manor; Villainy at the Village Store; and Calamity at Coombesford Church. In November 2024, we will find out who’s been Silenced at the Summer Social.

Under the Chudleigh Phoenix Publications imprint, I have also published four solo collections of short stories and co-authored another two with my friend, Sharon Cook. I also write and lecture on Author Business Foundationsbusiness skills for writers running their own small business.

My Life

I was born and brought up in Birmingham. As a teenager, I won a holiday to France, Spain and Portugal for writing essays and poetry in a newspaper competition. Despite this promising start in the literary world, I took scientific and business qualifications and spent more than thirty years as a manufacturing consultant, technical writer and small business owner, publishing a number of pharmaceutical text books and editing a technical journal along the way.

Having left Birmingham to study in London, I lived for more than twenty years in Wilmington, Kent. In 2007, I moved to the South West of England, where I live with my husband, Michael, in a converted granary sited picturesquely on the banks of, and occasionally within the path of, a small stream. In 2012, I closed down my technical consultancy in order to concentrate full-time on my writing; or as I like to put it: tell lies for a living. In the same year, I graduated from Exeter University with an MA in Creative Writing

When I am not writing, I’m a keen reader and singer (I’ve been a member of several local choirs over the years). I also enjoy live theatre of any kind, share with my husband a love of fine dining, and am a real sucker for the kind of country house hotel where you can kick off your shoes and curl up with a book in front of a log fire.

I would like you to believe I am also a keen walker and swimmer, enjoying the beauties of Dartmoor and the South Devon coastline—but, I’m a writer, so you have to remember I’m good at making things up.
