Carryl writes emotive historical fiction with a focus on the 20th Century. Her debut novel, The Forgotten Life of Connie Harris is a dual timeline story set in post WWII Devon against the immersive backdrop of cinema. Her writing explores love in turbulent times, both romantic and familial – the people we’re given and those we choose for ourselves.
Carryl grew up on the Isle of Wight but now lives in Devon with her family. Although writing was always a dream, an early fascination with film led to a career as a Film and Photography Archivist. After working in Media Archives for seventeen years, including the Imperial War Museum and the BBC, she now writes full time in the company of her cat, Ditsy.
Her second novel set in 1920s Exeter is due to be published by Joffe books in June.
